when someone tells you what you cannot do...

prove them dead wrong.
I have this super genius that goes to my school. Okay, well maybe I give him a tad more credit than he deserves, but the kid is pretty damn smart. I think he's a tool bag and since his obnoxious "popular" friends graduated last year, he's been a bit lost. Anyway, when discussing our future plans in a class one day (actually to give you a better idea, it was my philosophy seminar, a class that's part of being an enrichment student in my school), he laughed at my plans.
Which are high hopes, of course, and sound unreasonable to a person in his own little world of wannabeness. But hey, I'm allowed to dream, and it isn't completely out there. Becoming a famous young socialite in the city as a result of a successful literary, public relations, and/or journalistic career is not completely unsound for a dream. But of course, he and another smart tool bag girl, laughed at this and said, "Uh, I hope you have a back up plan."This same kid laughed out loud when I played with the idea of becoming a lawyer. He literally shouted out "Noooo wayyy!!" and laughed. -Pulls a face of irritation.-
My point of this story?
Don't let someone tell you what you cannot do. Ever. Ever. Because, really what do they know of your talent and drive? What do they know of you dreams and your personality? Let all their negativity drive you forward in the direction of your dreams. And hopefully at the ten, fifteen year reunion, you can return in all your glory and say, "Oh, you lost a huge business deal with so and so? That's a shame; he's an acquaintance of mine as a matter of fact..."
Okay, well don't be quite as petty as that. Remember I'm still growing! I'm allowed to gloat over the fact that I got 18 points higher than him a calculus test. -cough cough-
Anyway, moral is: Only you can determine what you can and cannot do.

  1. Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions; small people always do that... but the really great make you feel that you, too, are great. - Mark Twain

I just had a similar experience a few days ago. I posted that I will run and dream of becoming a triathlete. I have this friend (who I always thought is my friend) who texted me and told me, 'Are you serious? I don't think you can do it. I'm sure you can't do it."

This kind of attitude from negative and know-it-all people will make us conquer our dreams. We will prove to them that we can do it and we did it.

  3. And you'll be the one to laugh when they fail! people don't want other people's dreams to come true.. just because they are scared their won't.

  4. I suppose I'm quite childish in my thoughts. I would have put glue on his chair when he wasn't looking, then gloated about scoring higher than him on the test. Or I would have in my dreams. At least you know to take the high road. It is those who take the high road who can achieve anything! :)

  7. I hate people like that. And i KNOW people like that. And even when they're not talking, not expressing their opinions, they're still showing them with every inch of their being, they pull up a face, and that's enough to make blood rush to anyone's head. Because just as you said, no one can make us feel our plans are wronger than theirs, or wrong at all. We are to decide what will be of our future, and WE ALONE can do that. Besides, those people always setting for low ambitions really risk to find themselves stuck in boring lives they hate. I'm sure most of my classmates will end up attending tried-and-trusted university courses just for the certainty ( the supposed certainty, better said ) of finding a job. They'll all become lawyers/engineers/medicians. Fine by me, till it's fine by them. If they're not sorry, i'd like to aspire to something more.
So i totally understand your position AND ambition <3

  9. I agree-- but then again, I don't think we have the right to determine what we CANNOT do, we should try!

this is one of my favourite quotes...

"Don't let society define who you are.
You are who you are for a reason.
If people don't accept you, they're not worth the worry".

Keep blogging you are a inspiration to all!! Don't let the "wanna bes" influence you, they are the taxi drivers of the future..
